SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Charity match in memory of popular teenager

A CHARITY football match will be played this morning (Sunday, April 20, 2014) in memory of a 15-year-old South Somerset schoolboy who died last year.

Bradley Cullen, a student at Wadham Community School, Crewkerne, had battled with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare disorder affecting one in 3,500 births in the UK each year.

Bradley fell seriously ill at home in South Petherton and was airlifted to hospital on June 18 last year, but died later that day because of heart failure brought on by DMD.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Charity match in memory of popular teenager

Now this morning his pals from Ilminster Youth Under-16s will play a charity match against the club’s managers.

The match has been organised by Bradley’s friends who wanted to do something to help raise money for the Action Duchenne Charity.

Bradley’s dad Mark Cullen, who works at Pittards in Yeovil, is also set to play in the game which will be held at 10.30am at Ilminster Recreation Ground.

Mum Tash has been asked to play, but at the time of writing, it is more than likely that she will be supporting from the touchline!

There will be food, a raffle and local band Sleeping With Lions will also be playing during the morning.

Bradley’s death came as a huge shock to his family because though he had been having increased health problems of over the past three years there had been nothing to suggest what was about to happen.

The popular teenager loved Formula 1 motor racing and Chelsea FC and his funeral service at the Minster in Ilminster, which was packed with mourners, had a blue theme to reflect Chelsea’s colours.
