SOMERSET NEWS: Double-decker bus crashes with passengers on-board

ONE elderly woman was taken to hospital this afternoon (Thursday, February 27, 2014) following a crash involving a double-decker bus.

The incident happened at just after 1pm on the Coast Road at Berrow near Burnham-on-Sea when the bus had gone off the road into a water-filled ditch.

Firefighters from Burnham and Taunton were mobilised where officers found the bus on its side with passengers still inside the vehicle.

Crews removed seats from the bus to allow for the rescue of an elderly lady who was trapped on the lower level. She was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

Seventeen other passengers were led to safety with one recommended to attend hospital for treatment.
