SOMERSET NEWS: Taunton pub roof damaged in fire

FIREFIGHTERS were called out tonight (Wednesday, February 26, 2014) to deal with a fire at a popular restaurant and pub on the outskirts of Taunton.

The alarm was raised at just after 7.45pm tonight with reports of a lean-to building at Hankridge Way on fire – adjacent to the Hankridge Arms pub.

Three fire crews from Taunton attended the incident and officers reported that the timber lean-to building and its contents were completely destroyed.

But officers also checked the roof space of the pub – close to the Sainsbury’s supermarket at Taunton - to make sure that the fire had not spread and reported that there had been some damage caused by heat and smoke.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “The utilities to the public house were isolated and fire crews damped down any remaining hot spots.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire Service.”
