Elderly woman cut free from wreckage

TWO people have been taken to hospital tonight (Tuesday, February 25, 2014) following a two-vehicle collision at Castle Cary.

The alarm was raised by ambulance personnel just before 8pm to the incident in Station Road and firefighters were mobilised from Castle Cary, Wincanton and Glastonbury.

Officers found an elderly lady trapped in one vehicle and they removed the roof to free her.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “A total of two casualties were conveyed to hospital by ambulance.

“Fire crews made both vehicles safe and left the incident in the hands of police and ambulance.”

Staff from Somerset Highways were also called out to deal with a spillage of oil on the road.
