Probably the worst bar in the Football League

IF Yeovil Town Football Club's social facilities for supporters were turned into a beer advert – it could possibly have the slogan of being “Probably the WORST bar in the Football League.”

The club has – by its own admission – the unwanted tag of being the only outfit in the entire Football League which uses a marquee for its supporters’ social bar.

Club officials have had their hands tied ever since moving to Huish Park in 1990 by an existing covenant imposed on the site held by Abbey Manor Homes restricting the sale of alcohol to only a small area of the site.

A club report said that covenant was “severely limiting the ability to raise money.”

The report added: “Yeovil is the only club in the Football League that can boast the use of a marquee as a home supporters’ social bar.Probably the worst bar in the Football League

“We have no facilities at all for our away supporters who on arrival at Huish Park make their way through the Abbey Manor estate to the nearest public house, the Arrow.

“Very often this causes a nuisance for the residents on route to the Arrow.”

The club is hoping to get the backing of South Somerset District Council for planning approval to develop the Huish Park site by building a food store on land to the north of the stadium to help fund improvements to the ground including social facilities for supporters.

The report, which has just been submitted to support the plans which were first given to the council back in February 2012, added: “Our aim is to raise sufficient funds by removing the existing restrictive covenants and to regenerate the under-utilised and sub-standard land around the stadium.”
