Be careful out there!

DRIVING rain and fierce winds are making today (Wednesday, February 12, 2014) another hazardous day out on the roads.

Once again the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is advising motorists to take extra care and to take notice of “road closed” signs.

“Be careful out there,” said a spokesman on Twitter. “Please heed road closures and stay safe.”

The Fire Service has been called out many times in recent weeks where drivers have ignored “road closed” signs and ended up stuck in floodwater.

Motorists should also keep a look out for fallen trees and other natural debris littering the roads, while in residential areas drivers should keep their wits about them for falling roof tiles or refuse bins being blown about by the wind.

BBC weather reports suggest that Somerset is to continue being battered by rain and strong winds for much of the day which will make driving conditions difficult.
