Prime Minister back in Somerset for flooding update

PRIME Minister David Cameron was back in Somerset today (Tuesday, February 11, 2014) and visited the flood “nerve centre” in the county.

He was on a whistle-stop fact-finding trip to the South West having visited areas in Devon and Cornwall yesterday.

Mr Cameron was flown over the flooded Somerset Levels and said that the scene was “quite remarkable.”

The PM was accompanied by Bridgwater MP Ian Liddell-Grainger and visited the multi-agency “gold command” in Taunton who are overseeing the emergency operation.

He then met various representatives of around 20 organisations and charities which are supporting the operation to help those affected by the floods.

Mr Cameron was given a detailed briefing by Chief Superintendent Caroline Peters and was provided with a latest situation report by officers from the Environment Agency.

The Prime Minister thanked all those working at the emergency flood centre in Taunton and praised them for all their hard work, dedication and commitment.
