Octagon Theatre is 40 and wants your memories!

THE Octagon Theatre in Yeovil is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year of bringing arts and entertainment to the community – and needs you to help with the party!

The Octagon team is busy planning events to mark the anniversary and is inviting people to share their memories and stories of the theatre.

“We know this special place means a lot to our audience and we’d love to hear your stories as well as finding out what the theatre means to you,” said Octagon arts and entertainment manager Adam Burgan.Octagon Theatre is 40 and wants your memories!

“We would like to share your experiences and for you to become part of our legacy. As well as memories we would love to collect and exhibit any old programmes or items related to the theatre that you might have – if you have any items that you would like to loan to us for this purpose do let us know.”

The Octagon was built in 1974 and opened as the multi-purpose Johnson Hall. It was not until ten years later that the hall changed its name to the Octagon Theatre and although it took a few years to catch on, the name of the Octagon took off in 1988 when the decision was taken to remove the retractable seating and replace it with a permanent auditorium.

The Octagon now wants to know your memories of the theatre. You can get in touch by letter, email, or on the theatre’s social media pages to tell them your favourite memories and what it means to you.

You might even see your experiences being shared in a special event the Octagon is planning to celebrate its 40 years in arts and entertainment.

There are many ways for you to get in touch: Call 01935-422884; write to the Octagon Theatre, Hendford, Yeovil, Somerset BA20 1UX; email at octagon.theatre@southsomerset.gov.uk; visit www.facebook.com/TheOctagonTheatre or on Twitter @octagonyeovil.

Alternatively – why not pop into the Octagon itself and say “hello.”
