Nyanza Masonic Lodge backs Horseshoes and Handprints

THE Ilminster-based Nyanza Masonic Lodge has presented a £1,400 cheque to the Horseshoes and Handprints group which provides sensory therapy and special riding for adults and children who have behaviour and communication difficulties.

Close contact with horses has been shown to release stress within people with conditions such as Asperger’s, autism and neurological disorders. This is both beneficial to the individual, their families and carers.

The Ilminster Masons raised £700 at a charity lunch in July last year and that was matched with an application for Legacy Match Funding to the Provincial Grand Lodge of Somerset.

Horseshoes and Handprints, which is based at Stocklinch near Ilminster, offers specialised therapy for adults and children with learning difficulties within Somerset which would otherwise not be available to them.

The Worshipful Master of the Nyanza Lodge, Hall Smith, who has Horseshoes and Handprints as his chosen charity for the year, was joined by fellow Masons as he presented the cheque to the charity’s trustee treasurer Desi Fradgley.
