POLICE are appealing for the public's help after a man tried to steal a car when the driver got out to move a recycling bin in Yeovil.

The victim, who is 17-years-old, was driving her Ford Fiesta along Cromwell Road at about 9.15pm on Friday (January 3, 2014) when she stopped to move a recycling bin which was in the middle of the road.

As she moved the bin, she saw a man trying the handle of the driver's door. He then ran towards her and tried to grab hold of a lanyard attached to her keys, but she screamed and he ran off.

The man was white, in his early twenties, 6ft 2ins, of slim build and he was wearing a dark blue/black baggy hooded top, with the hood up, and dark trousers.

If you recognise the description of the man, or saw anything suspicious in the Cromwell Road area around the time of this incident, please call investigating officer PC Katherine Tucker via the 24-hour non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
