Daredevil Wyn skydives just before 80th birthday!

JUST a few weeks before her 80th birthday local woman, Wyn Gifford, made the ultimate leap when she skydived from 15,000ft to raise funds for St Margaret’s Hospice.

Daredevil Wyn, a volunteer at St Margaret's charity shop in Langport, said it was an "exhilarating experience."

"I was a bit scared as I left the plane and felt the rush of bitterly cold wind as I descended at 200mph," she said. "It was a weightless feeling and I thought I had come out without the instructor, so I prayed hard.

"Having no reference points at that stage, it felt like flying on my own.  As the parachute canopy opened above me it was the most serene and lovely feeling.Daredevil Wyn skydives just before 80th birthday!

"I could see the wonder of the world below with great views for miles around.  Beautiful countryside and coastlines and even a circular rainbow.  So exhilarating!“

As a volunteer for St. Margaret’s Hospice Langport shop, Wyn has a good reason for supporting the charity.  However, she also has a long history as a nurse and social services manager where she experienced first-hand the work of the Hospice movement.

Wyn made her skydive with St Margaret’s Hospice Langport shop manager, Rachel Gamble, who said she felt terrified before and during the jump, but added: “Sailing under the canopy was exhilarating."

Both Rachel and Wyn would like to say thank you to all of the customers, family and friends who have supported them in their challenge.
