Come Dine With Me - Part 1: Star of the night is Mel Dunford!

WHAT can you say? The opening edition of the Come Dine With Me show from the Yeovil area has been screened tonight (Monday, December 2, 2013) on TV!

The opening dinner party of the week in the Channel Four reality show was hosted by posh PR girl Emmy Webster and she was joined by former local radio station presenter Steve Carpenter, businessman Alan Bunter, second-hand car salesman Andy Neil and forklift truck driver and self-confessed country bumpkin Mel Dunford.

The actual food prepared by Emmy was probably immaterial to local viewers who were more interested in seeing how the diners settled in and would get on.

And with four shows to go – you know that there are going to be tensions the longer the week goes on and it looks as if there will be friction between Steve Carpenter and Andy Neil.Come Dine With Me - Part 1: Star of the night is Mel Dunford!

Andy Neil said: “Steve thinks he is Chris Moyles; Steve thinks he is Jeremy Clarkson.”

Steve Carpenter said: “Perhaps Andy should have been a comedian rather than a car salesman. Andy is not as funny as Andy thinks he is.”

But star of the first episode was proper cider-supping Zummerset girl Mel, a former student of Westfield School in Yeovil, who has probably got the best (or the worst whatever your view point) laugh in the world.

Alan Bunter summed it up: “Mel is absolutely bonkers.”

Emmy – who had to give up with her own attempts at making Hollandaise Sauce and resort to getting it out of a jar – scored 26 points out of 40 for her dinner hosting skills.

Each contestant marks their co-diners out of ten for their food and hosting skills and the person with the biggest score will win £1,000.

The next episode is tomorrow (Tuesday, December 3, 2013) at 5.30pm on Channel Four.
