Concrete trees set for revamped play area in Yeovil

CONCRETE trees look set to be "planted" as part of a long-awaited transformed play area in Yeovil.

Plans are ongoing for the project to revamp the play area at King Arthur Drive off of Larkhill Road.

Features expected to be included in the new play area are a zip line, rope swing, new toddler and junior swings, large climbing net and slide, roundabout, basket swing, adventure/woodland theme and new seating and bins.

Cllr Graham Pritchard said that the project group was looking at installing some man-made concrete trees which would then have natural vegetation growing around them.

The play area project is being led by a partnership of representatives of the parish council, South Somerset District Council, Yarlington Housing Group, Knightstone Housing Association and the police.

Cllr Pritchard said he hoped the first play equipment would be going in during February next year and that it would all be completed by the end of March.

He showed councillors at this week’s Brympton Parish Council meeting photos of concrete trees which have been installed in Singapore in Asia and stand 50 metres tall and with trunks which weigh 80 tonnes alone.

Cllr Pritchard told councillors that the concrete trees planned for King Arthur Drive would not be quite so imposing!
