People urged to SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT on housing plans

PEOPLE now need to SPEAK UP if they want to have their say on where housing is built in the years ahead in Yeovil and South Somerset as a public consultation opens today (Thursday, November 28, 2013) on vital council proposals.

South Somerset District Council is wanting to make amendments to its Local Plan which will govern the future of housing in this area up to 2028.

But it must convince a planning inspector that its Local Plan is right for adoption and so councillors are having a re-think on where substantial building works are carried out in Yeovil and Ilminster.People urged to SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT on housing plans

Instead of building 2,500 homes at East Coker to the south of Yeovil, councillors now want to reduce that number to 800 and build a further 765 at a new site at Upper Mudford in the north of the town.

Meanwhile in Ilminster, councillors want to change its earmarked area for housing development from ShudrickValley to Canal Way.

A public consultation about the amended changes to the Local Plan will now be held between today (November 28, 2013) and January 10, 2014.

People are being urged to make their comments known to the council to allow councillors and officers the opportunity to gauge public opinion.

People can go online to make their comments – from 9am today – by visiting www.southsomerset.gov.uk/proposedmainmods . They can also email comments to planning.policy@southsomerset.gov.uk or by sending comments to the Spatial Policy Team at the Council Offices in Brympton Way, Yeovil, Somerset BA20 2HT.

The proposed amendments to the Local Plan can be viewed – also from 9am today – at www.southsomerset.gov.uk/proposedmainmods .
