Traffic calming turning road into rat run

TRAFFIC calming measures may be implemented in a Yeovil road to try and prevent it from becoming a rat run for drivers trying to avoid .... traffic calming measures in an adjoining street.

There has been plenty of criticism made by local people about recently-installed speed-reducing measures introduced in Larkhill Road.

And it has been suggested by residents that all it has done has turned Freedom Avenue, which runs between Stiby Road and Larkhill Road, into a rat run.

South Somerset District Council has reported that drivers are using Freedom Avenue to avoid the traffic calming in Larkhill.

Cllr Ian Martin, speaking at the council’s Area South committee meeting this month, said: “There has been more traffic in Freedom Avenue and we may look at putting in traffic calming measures down there to make sure it doesn’t become a rat run.”
