X Factor singer Matt and Kingsland Road gutted at auction hoaxers

A SINGER from South Somerset has been left “gutted” after he and his Kingsland Road band from TV show X Factor were conned by eBay hoaxers.

Matt Cahill, a member of the boy band which was voted off of X Factor a fortnight ago, was furious after finding out that an online auction in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital had been hijacked by conmen.

The band had put one of their audition guitars used on X Factor up for grabs on eBay and saw a top bid placed for £7,900.

But it has been discovered that the two top bidders were in fact the same person and have not stumped up the cash.X Factor singer Matt and Kingsland Road gutted at auction hoaxers

Matt, of Chard, said: “We’re absolutely gutted to find out the money we raised for Birmingham Children’s Hospital was the work of hoaxers.

“The hospital is trying to raise £4m for their new cancer unit, and after we visited the kids just after Boot Camp, we decided we wanted to help, so we auctioned off the guitar which we used in our first X Factor audition.

“Halfway through the bidding process we checked to see if everything was legit, but the bidders disappeared soon after the auction ended leaving Birmingham Children’s new Cancer Unit Appeal out of pocket.

“We are so upset that we can’t deliver the money we pledged.”

Kingsland Road have said on their Facebook page that they have set up a JustGiving page for any “kind-hearted donors to help us raise this cash for the cancer unit.”

“If we can raise the pledged £7,900 for the kids we’d be so happy,” said the band.
