Christmas lights switch-on in Yeovil

THE countdown to Christmas will officially start in Yeovil on Thursday (November 14, 2013) with the switching-on of the festive illuminations.

More than 40 new displays have been put up this year to help make the town an even more attractive place in which to visit and shop.

The lights are funded by Yeovil Town Council – with contributions from South Somerset District Council and a number of other local organisations and traders. These include donations of £500 from the Town Centre Partnership, £500 from the Yeovil Chamber and £200 from the Old Mill Group.Christmas lights switch-on in Yeovil

This year’s display includes a brand new bespoke motif, which has been sponsored by Yeovil Town Football Club at a cost of £3,500. This motif, which is located in Westminster Street, features animated players as well as a festive greeting from the club.

The Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Manny Roper, who will be helping to switch-on the lights, said: "Christmas is a special time of the year and the new lights give the Town an extra sparkle and magic.

"The town council has invested in a new set of lights to help maintain and develop the vitality and vibrancy of Yeovil Town Centre as a key shopping destination."

The switch-on will take place at 6.30pm in the Quedam Shopping Centre on Thursday (November 14, 2013).
