Gold Star Awards 2013: Pride of South Somerset!

THE pride of South Somerset gathered at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil last night (Tuesday, October 29, 2013) for the sixth annual Gold Star awards and, once again, it proved to be a truly inspirational evening.Gold Star Awards 2013: Pride of South Somerset!

The awards are held each year by South Somerset District Council to recognise the effort and commitment of individuals and organisations who make a real difference to their communities across the district and, in particular, helping young people in our society.

Guest of honour was Yeovil Town FC manager Gary Johnson who spoke about the importance of teamwork.

The evening was hosted by Ian Burrage and Laura James, while hosting the awards were the council’s chairman, Cllr Mike Best, and culture and leisure spokesman Cllr Sylvia Seal.

Cllr Best said that the district was blessed with a wonderful variety of talented young people.

And Cllr Seal added: “The council gives a lot of support to young people and this awards night is the cherry on top of the cake.”

Prior to the awards being made their was a variety performance with the Orchard Gymnastics Club, Barrington Players, magician Attics Bowring, Castaways and band The Harletts entertaining the large audience.
