Bluebell Road still on track for speed awareness

PLANS to try and make motorists more aware of the speed they are travelling at along a fast-moving road in Yeovil are still on the cards.

Bluebell Road, a main road running off of the Palmers roundabout and by the Airfield Tavern on the edge of Yeovil, is often plagued by drivers going faster than the 30mph limit.Bluebell Road still on track for speed awareness

Speed Indicator Devices, known as SIDs, have been earmarked to be installed along Bluebell Road, but as of yet they have yet to appear.

The SID keeps a sharp-eyed watch on drivers’ speeds and, when they are detected travelling too fast, flashes up the speed on a roadside display monitor.

The aim is to draw drivers’ attention to their speed and let them know they are over the limit, encouraging them to slow down.

Members of Brympton Parish Council have been requesting this type of action to be taken on Bluebell Road, but there has been a delay in getting a SID installed by Somerset County Council.

But Brympton parish clerk, Liz James, told councillors on Wednesday (October 23, 2013) that there was nothing to worry about.

“It’s still on the system,” she said. “Bluebell Road won’t be forgotten. There has just been a delay - we're still going to get it."
