Flat fire in Earle Street
FIREFIGHTERS were called out last night (Monday, October 14, 2013) to deal with a blaze at a flat in Yeovil.
The alarm was raised at just before 9.45pm to the incident at a building in Earle Street and two fire engines from Yeovil were mobilised following reports of smoke coming from a window.
Officers requested a further fire engine from Yeovil to attend and firefighters confirmed a large amount of smoke coming from the attic space of a loft conversion.
They forced their way into the building to deal with the incident and further support came from officers in Martock, Street, Sherborne and Taunton.
A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the building was used as a house of multiple occupancy and that the fire involved the top floor flat.
Just before midnight, the firefighters were still at the scene damping down.
Further details will follow.
