Support for bereaved parents who have lost a child

A SUPPORT group drop-in centre is held in Yeovil once a month for parents who have suffered the heartbreaking loss of a child.

The Rosie Crane Trust, which is based in South Somerset, will be hold its next drop-in centre at the South Street Centre at 20 South Street, Yeovil BA20 1QE, on Saturday, November 2, and then again on Saturday, December 7, between 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Bereaved parents will be able to meet in a safe and confidential environment where they can talk to others who really understand and empathise with themSupport for bereaved parents who have lost a child

There is no obligation to talk, unless you want to, but many people find it a great help just to be in the room with others who have experienced the loss of a precious son or daughter whatever their age.

The Trust was formed by Carol Crane in 2006 – two years after the death of her daughter, Rosie, who died at the age of 23 as a result of developing leukaemia.

“I was contacted by two other parents who had lost children; we met up and found it was a great relief and help to talk about what had happened, our thoughts, memories and concerns.”

The Trust offers a confidential “listening ear” service where trained, volunteer bereaved parents answer the telephone to other bereaved parents who need someone to talk to.

Carol added: “I have found from my own experience, and that of others, the immense value of being able to talk to people who can really understand and empathise with what you have been through.”

A Walk for Rosie sponsored walk which took place at Ilminster on Saturday, September 28, was a great success with more than £1,200 raised for the Trust.

Carol said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part or supported the Trust through sponsorship and donations.

“We’d also like to thank Tesco for donating bottles of water for the walkers.”
