Police appeal after fatal road smash

POLICE are appealing for information following a fatal road smash on the Ilminster Bypass yesterday (Thursday, September 26).

A flat bed truck travelling westbound was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the opposite direction and then two further cars at around 11.15am.

The driver of the truck - a man - was seriously injured, while police confirmed that a man who was in the Corsa also suffered serious injuries. Police also confirmed that the truck driver had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The road was closed to enable a full examination of the scene and motorists were urged to avoid the area until it reopened last night.

A police spokesman said: "We would like to speak to anyone who was travelling along the A303 at the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries."

Anyone with information to assist the police is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101.
