New Yeovil cricket club for adults with learning disabilities

THE first-ever cricket club for adults with learning difficulties in Yeovil is set to open tomorrow (Saturday, September 21, 2013) at Preston Sports Centre.

The club is a joint venture between the Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership and the 1610 leisure trust which manages the centre.

A number of sports for adults with learning difficulties are organised at Preston Sports Centre but it is the first time that a cricket club is being launched due to increased demand from the local community.New Yeovil cricket club for adults with learning disabilities

It is hoped that the club - which will take place every Saturday between 1.30pm to 3.30pm - will become a satellite club for Somerset County Cricket.

Leisure service manager at Preston Sports Centre, Matt Harras, says that the centre wants to build upon the services it provides for adults with learning difficulties.

"We already provide sports and activities such as football and the Strawberry Club as well as two specialist gym sessions each week," he said.

"Now in partnership with SASP we are looking to open a cricket club as well. Our cricket coach Ross Baker will be on hand to give first rate cricket coaching as well as organising some regular matches which promise to be great fun community events.”
