Motorcyclist collides with deer

A MOTORCYCLIST had to be airlifted to hospital tonight (Saturday, September 7) after being in collision with a deer.

The alarm was raised at just after 7.30pm to the incident on the B3151 near Somerton and one fire engine from Martock was mobilised.

Police and ambulance personnel were also in attendance due to the nature of the incident.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival crews found a single motorcyclist in a ditch.

“Ambulance crews were assessing the casualty, while our officers set about clearing a track to the casualty and a request for additional lighting was made.

“The Incident Support Unit from Yeovil was mobilised to provide the extra lighting.”

An Air Sea Rescue helicopter was requested from Portland to transport the casualty to hospital.
