Firefighters deal with heating oil spill

FIRE crews were called out last night after 100 litres of heating oil leaked out of a storage tank at a property in South Somerset.

The alarm was raised at just before 8.45pm to the incident in Castlebrook, Compton Dundon, and crews from nearby Street were mobilised to carry out an inspection.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Officers confirmed the tank held 2,700 litres of heating oil and about 100 litres had leaked from the tank through a split onto a gravelled drive.”

The spokesman added: “Crews got to work using sealant to stem the flow from the split in the tank and duty of care was then left with the owner.”
