Exam Results 2013: Joy for AS-Level students at Yeovil College

YEOVIL College AS-Levels students achieved an overall pass rate of 90 per cent in their results today (Thursday, August 15) – an increase of one per cent on the 2012 figure.

There were 100% pass rates achieved in 16 AS-Level subjects, including Accounting, Fine Art, Photography, Computing, English Language, English Literature, History, Philosophy, Drama & Theatre Studies, Health & Social Care, Further Maths and Physics.

Students who took AS exams in Communication & Culture, French and Fashion & Textiles all achieved A-B grades, while 50% of passes in English Literature and Fashion & Textiles were at grade A.

Successful AS-Level students included Fiona Gane, 16, of Yeovil, who achieved A grades in English Literature, Psychology and Sociology plus a B in Health & Social Care.

She said “I’m going to do my A Levels at Yeovil College.  I’m hoping to go to university to study to be an occupational therapist or a primary school teacher.

I love to help people and really want to make a positive difference to people’s lives.  Going to college has been a fantastic experience.

I’ve grown so much in confidence and I think it’s been the making of me.  I’d recommend college, but I think that you have to find what suits you because it varies from person to person.  It depends on what you like and what you want to do in the long term.”

Sonika Jha, 17, of Yeovil, studied AS-Levels at Yeovil College after moving to the area from India.

She said: “I got A grades in Art & Design, English Literature and B grades French and Biology.  I’m coming back to YeovilCollege next year to do my A Levels.”

Sonika hopes to eventually study Anthropology at university.
