No job threats when Yeovil stores merge

TWO of Yeovil’s big name stores are to merge under one roof in the coming months.

An exciting development is soon to get underway at electrical shop Currys on the Houndstone Business Park and computer store PC World in Lysander Road.

Bosses have said that no jobs are at risk when PC World moves in alongside Currys at an extended store on Houndstone. No job threats when Yeovil stores merge

James Hawkins, general manager of Currys and PC World Yeovil, said: “There will be significant investment in the site at Houndstone with a mezzanine floor being constructed to house an extended range of products.

“The combined total of staff is 35 – there will be no job losses, while there could be the possibility of new jobs as we get towards the end of the year.”

Mr Hawkins said that the work would start in early September and would see Currys close for six weeks to enable the store to be developed.

“We will be trading from the PC World site during this time on Lysander Road,” added Mr Hawkins.

“Once the building has finished at Houndstone we will then open the new store with a new and exciting format – likely to be early to mid-October.”

He said that the PC World site would then be handed over to another retailer – but did not disclose which one.

He added that the new store would be duel-branded as Currys & PC World.
