The ceremony marked the build up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 29, an event that takes place every year to celebrate the UK's armed forces - past, present and future.

The vice-chairman of South Somerset District Council, Cllr Carol Goodall, was joined by representatives from RNAS Yeovilton, the Somerset Army Cadet Force, Soldiers Sailors & Airmen Families, Air Training Corps and AgustaWestland, for the beginning of a week of official celebrations across the country.

Cllr Carol Goodall said: “As an ex-member of Her Majesty’s Forces, I was delighted to welcome serving personnel, cadets, veterans and members of other agencies to our flag ceremony at Brympton Way which recognises the invaluable service and efforts of our Armed Forces.”

District councillors and staff came out to show their respect for the short flag raising service.
