Rotarians back the Piers Simon Appeal

THE Piers Simon Appeal's School in a Bag initiative has been been boosted by a £2,000 donation from Crewkerne Rotary Club.

Luke Simon, of School in a Bag, was presented with the donation during the PSA's annual Home Farm Fest held at Chilthorne Domer on June 7-9.

Each schoolbag is filled with stationery equipment and resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and above all, learn. To date the organisation has supplied 34,500 schoolbags throughout the world. School in a Bag was the charity of the year for Crewkerne Rotary Club presient Sarah Holley.

Sarah said the funds were raised by bingo and quiz nights, a Father Christmas float week, the Rotary Shop in Crewkerne, a Le Roc dance night and the club’s entry in last year’s annual Iron Man competition on Exmoor.

''We were really pleased to be able to support his worthwhile organisation and would like to thank all who helped us to raise this money,'' she added.

Luke Simon added: “I would like to thank Crewkerne Rotary Club for its wonderful donation.”

School in a Bag is an initiative of the overall Piers Simon Appeal which was formed after former Yeovil College student Piers Simon was killed in the Asian tsunami of Boxing Day 2004 while on holiday in Thailand.
