Students put on Hair Show at the Octagon Theatre

YEOVIL College’s hairdressing students are holding a catwalk show at the Octagon Theatre on Monday, May 20, at 7.30pm to showcase their best work.

The show will feature approximately 130 models styled by students on Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 full-time courses and Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships, as well as local school pupils completing qualifications at the College alongside their GCSEs.

Styles by Westfield Academy, King Arthurs Community School, Wadham School, Holyrood Academy, Bucklers Mead Academy and Huish Episcopi Academy pupils will be included in the show.

The themes for this year’s event include Bridal, Animations, Fantasy, Cultural, Historical and Avant Garde and have inspired the students to produce some stunning designs.

The best styles will be recognised with a prize giving at the end of the event, judged by local employers.  Prizes have been kindly donated by Cyril Gallie, Studio CCK, Salon Supplies, Salonwear and others.

A number of local businesses are also attending the 2013 Hair Show, including representatives of Pyror Appointment, Studio CCK, Salon Fish, Gerrards, Fredericks, Cutting Edge and Cyril Gallie.

Hairdressing lecturer Shaina Simmonds said “The Hair Show is an annual event that has grown bigger and more popular every year.

‘’We’re delighted to be bringing it to the Octagon Theatre and hope this means more people will be able to come and admire the amazing creativity of our students.  The students create not just the hair styles, but also the ‘look’ of each model, including make up and costume.

‘’They really push the boundaries to come up with some incredibly eye catching designs which show both great imagination and technical skill.

They’ve worked incredibly hard and we look forward to sharing the results with friends, family and the general public on Monday, May 20.”

The Yeovil College Hair Show 2013 will take place at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil, on May 20 at 7.30pm.  Tickets are £10 and available by calling 01935-422884 or via www.octagon-theatre.co.uk .
