Trainee Air Engineering Technician Ryan Willetts arrived at the Royal Navy training base in Cornwall in January.

During a ten-week course he has been given a thorough induction into the Royal Navy, learning skills that he will rely upon throughout his time in the Service. The course culminates with the passing-out-parade attended by families and friends.

Ryan attended Bucklers Mead School and previously worked as a barman.

“I joined the Royal Navy to gain life experience and to travel the world,’’ he said. ‘’Meeting new people and being able to do so many which wouldn’t be possible at home have been the highlights of training. Overall the course has been hard, but very rewarding.”

With the first phase of his training complete Ryan’s next port of call is HMS Sultan in Hampshire.  There he will learn how to carry out scheduled maintenance as well as pre- and post-flight servicing and inspections for the Fleet Air Arm's helicopters.
