Yeovil Library to close for two months

YEOVIL Library is set to close for two months to allow work to be carried out to make it self-service.Yeovil Library to close for two months

Touch-screen kiosks will allow customers to borrow, renew and return books and other items as well as to check reservations and pay charges – these initiatives have already been successfully introduced at libraries in Taunton, Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater, Wells and Frome.

The library in King George Street, Yeovil, will be temporarily closed from May 7 to July 21 while the self-service equipment is fitted and refurbishment completed.

In addition to the installation of self-service a number of other improvements will be made including new carpets, fitting of energy efficient lighting, a new enquiries desk, new shelving, replacing and updating signage and remodelling of the entrance.

Somerset County Council’s Library Service’s manager, Sue Crowley, said: “This is great news for Yeovil Library.

“Staff will be on hand to help people get to grips with the new kiosks. Once in place, self-service will reduce queues at peak times and allow staff to focus on helping visitors get the most out of their library.”

Library users need to bring their membership card and PIN (Personal Identification Number) to use the kiosks. Anyone who doesn’t have a PIN, has forgotten it or wants to change it to something more memorable, can ask a member of library staff or speak to a customer advisor on 0845-345-9177.

While Yeovil library is closed, a temporary service will be offered close to the existing site and a further announcement will made once details have been confirmed.

Customers can also return and borrow items at any other Somerset or LibrariesWest Library. Items can be renewed online at www.librarieswest.org.uk or by speaking to a customer advisor on 0845-345-9177.
