Phill is all set for Three Parks Challenge

FIFTY-YEAR-OLD Yeovil man Phill Sandford will face a new challenge this coming Saturday (April 6) – a 28km circular sponsored walk from Yeovil to Ham Hill and back via Montacute Park.Phill is all set for Three Parks Challenge

He will be raising money for the Children’s Hospice South West, Fiveways Special School and the national charity Family Action.

“I jokingly refer to it as the Three Parks challenge,’’ he said. “There are hills, mud, stunning scenery but it's not Scafell Pike, Snowdon or Ben Nevis.” – referring, of course, to the more arduous 'Three Peaks challenge'.

Phill chose the two main benefactors; CHSW and Fiveways, for the help they gave to his nephew Ben Scott and family who sadly passed away last April at the age of 11 after his battle with the rare genetic disease Niemann-Pick Type C.

It all started when he was mapping a walk for his Facebook page to see if it was possible to walk from Yeovil to Ham Hill using primarily public footpaths, then he mapped the return route which made a circuit.

‘’What better way than to use it than to raise much needed funds for three great charities,’’ he said.

He will set off from YeovilCountryPark at 7am and walk to Ham Hill before returning via MontacutePark.

Phill hopes to be posting updates onto his twitter feed and the South Somerset Walks Facebook page at facebook.com/SouthSomersetWalks and Twitter at Yeomanphill.
