Extra funding for childcare costs

YEOVIL MP David Laws (pictured) has welcomed today’s Government announcement that families will soon be able to benefit from extra funding to cover the costs of childcare.

The new Tax-Free Childcare scheme will allow families to claim 20% of the cost of paying for childcare for each of their children under the age of five, with a maximum claim of £6,000.

The scheme is expected to cost around £1bn nationally and it is estimated that 5,665 families in South Somerset will be eligible for support.

The new scheme will be introduced in Autumn 2015 and the Government will shortly begin to consult on the precise details of how to implement the new system.

Mr Laws said: “Paying for childcare is one of the biggest costs that families have to deal with, and the Coalition is determined to give as much support as possible to parents.

“The £1bn investment announced by the Government today will help give children the best possible start in life as well as easing the burden on families’ living costs.”
