Town council gets A-grade with Yeovil College

YEOVIL Town Council has gone to the top of the class with a donation to Yeovil College’s charitable Bursary Foundation.

Launched in 2004, the Yeovil College Bursary Foundation raises money to provide much needed cash bursaries to hard working but economically disadvantaged students.

The bursaries often mean the difference between a student continuing their training and achieving their ambitions or having to leave altogether.

The £500 donation from Yeovil Town Council is the equivalent of one bursary and one more student who can stay in College.

The cheque was presented by Yeovil Mayor, Cllr Clive Davis, and accepted for the charity by YCBF chairman Jo Roundell Greene, YeovilCollege governor and YCBF Trustee Douglas Beazer and administrator Jo Farrant.

Cllr Davis said: "I’m pleased that the town council has agreed to grant this bursary, which will be awarded by the Foundation to a deserving student living in the town.

‘’Supporting students in this way provides a real helping hand and is an incentive for hard working students who need additional support to continue their education and training."

Mrs Roundell Greene said: “We are delighted to receive such generous support from Yeovil Town Council.

‘’This money equates to one bursary for a hard working Yeovil College student who is struggling financially.  As a result of this kind donation, a student will be able to continue their training and work towards their future career, making a positive contribution to society.

‘’We’re thrilled that our work has come to the attention of such an important local organisation as the council and that the councillors not only saw the value of what we do but wanted to support it.  We’re very grateful and sure that the student will be too.”
