Good luck to daring abseil volunteers!

DARING people will be taking the big plunge today when they abseil 100ft down Yeovil District Hospital to raise funds for the Action for Children charity and the hospital’s very own Flying Colours Appeal.Good luck to daring abseil volunteers!

The charity volunteers, many of whom are scared of heights, will be laying their own personal demons to rest in order to raise much-needed cash for these two deserving causes.

And with this being written at just after 9am there is now less than an hour to go before the first of the daredevils start to abseil.

The abseil ‘fun’ starts at 10am and will go on until 2.30pm with the last person to descend from the roof being Flying Colours Appeal co-ordinator Sarah Cherry.

She would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to support the charity.

Rachel Napper, 28, and Jo Thompson, 26, will be among those hardy souls who will be abseiling down the hospital to raise money for the Flying Colours Appeal.

‘’We both work for Yarlington Housing Group and the Flying Colours Appeal is our staff charity this year and so that is why we chose to support this excellent cause,’’ said Rachel.

‘’Both of us are terrified about doing this and it was a real spur of the moment decision to decide to take part and once the donations started rolling in, we knew we couldn't turn back. This is something neither of us have done before or anything like it! We are terrified!’’

So far the two friends have raised a staggering £1,000 from generous friends, family colleagues and supporters.

Jo added: ‘’We are both local girls and were born at Yeovil hospital so it means a lot to be able to raise money to support such a worth while and local cause.

‘’We also have a lot of close friends who have just had babies or are expecting babies in the near future so it is a cause that is close to our hearts.’’

Anyone wanting to sponsor Jo and Rachel – go to their fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/JoandRachel-AbseilChallenge .

Jo added: ‘’Thank you to all of our friends and family who have been so kind and generous so far and put their hands in their pockets.’’

The Yeovil Press would like to wish the very best of luck to all those taking part in the charity abseil and congratulations on raising a bucket load of cash for a very good cause.
