Charity abseil is a BIG success!

MORE than 120 daring daredevils abseiled their way down the side of Yeovil District Hospital today to raise a bucket load of cash for charity.

Individuals, groups and organisations all took part in the charity event which saw them gingerly climb over the edge of the roof of the hospital and make the 100ft descent below where a large mass of supporters gathered to cheer and clap them down.

The event was hosted by the Flying Colours Appeal for Yeovil Women’s Hospital and the Action for Children charity and now the abseiling fundraisers have to start collecting in their sponsorship money.

One person to take part was Teresa Samuel who admitted she was scared of heights and petrified – but was determined to put all of that to one side in order to make the plunge.

‘’I conquered my fear of heights and I made loads of money for charity,’’ she said. ‘’But I must admit – I wouldn’t do that again; I was so scared.’’

Sarah Cherry, of the Flying Colours Appeal, said she would like to thank everyone who supported the event.

Those sentiments were echoed by members of the Action for Children fundraising team.

Some of the fundraisers wore fancy dress with Duane Stone and Sophie Cairncross, for example, going as the Where’s Wally character. They were among the last to descend and as they teetered on the edge of the hospital roof – people down below could be heard saying: “There’s Wally!’’
