Book a date with National Libraries Day - TODAY!

PEOPLE are being encouraged to go along to their local library today (Saturday, February 9) because it has been designated as National Libraries Day.

Somerset County Council’s staff will be on hand to explain how easy it is to become a library member such as the one in King George Street, Yeovil, and the great range of books and other materials that are available.

There will also be some free time on the internet for library members, up to three free reservations and a chance to win a Kobo e-reader or a range of DVDs.

Cllr David Hall, the council's spokesman for libraries, said: “This is a good chance to find out what is on offer at your local library, and I hope many people will find our National Libraries Day events inspire them to use the service far more often.”

Children and young people who enjoy a challenge will be able to submit their own designs for the next range of children’s library membership cards. The closing date for submissions is March 9.

And don’t forget that libraries are also the ideal place to hire a DVD or CD, and because it’s the weekend there will be half-price hire of all DVDs.
