Spamalot musical coming to Yeovil!

YEOVIL College is delighted to announce that it is bringing the very first amateur production of the Monty Python-inspired musical Spamalot to the West Country this May.Spamalot musical coming to Yeovil!

Written by Eric Idle and John du Prez, Spamalot lovingly rips off the cult comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  King Arthur and his familiar band of brave and not-so-brave knights search the land for the legendary Holy Grail, tackling flying cows, witches, showgirls, the French and, most terrifying of all, killer rabbits.

The musical has taken Broadway and the West End by storm and features familiar favourite songs including Finland, Brave Sir Robin, The Song That Goes Like This and, of course, Always Look On the Bright Side of Life.

Yeovil College’s production is only the fourth amateur version approved in the UK, but the first in the West Country and the first by a college.

Spamalot director and Yeovil College performing arts lecturer Ben Woof said: “We’re absolutely thrilled and excited to be the first company to bring Spamalot to Somerset and the first college to get to put on this colourful musical in the UK.

“It’s new, it’s funny and it’s one of our favourite shows, so the cast are itching to get going.  The energy levels from both staff and students are already fantastic and we’re sure the sheer enthusiasm of everyone involved will give the show a pizzazz that makes it an unforgettable experience for the audience.

“Yeovil College’s annual productions have got bigger and better every year since we returned to the Octagon Theatre and we’re sure that everyone will love this surreal take on two legends – King Arthur and Monty Python.”

Spamalot will be on at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil on May 15-17. Tickets go on sale on Friday, February 15.
