KFC in Yeovil aims to get things right

KENTUCKY Fried Chicken bosses are hoping to put early ‘teething problems’ behind them at the Yeovil restaurant after receiving an upgraded rating from environmental health officers.KFC in Yeovil aims to get things right

There has been plenty of criticism about the restaurant, which opened in late November, with unhappy customers posting their concerns on Facebook and other social network media sites.

Things got even worse this month when the restaurant, which is based on the Houndstone business park, was given a poor rating in a food hygiene inspection carried out by the Food Standards Agency.

It was given a star of rating of just one out of five – representing major improvement necessary.

But now a follow-up inspection has been made and the KFC restaurant has been given a four-star rating – good.

A spokesman for KFC told the Yeovil Press: “Health and hygiene are of the utmost importance to us and we immediately acted to make improvements after the initial rating which was partly due to ongoing building works as the restaurant had just opened.

“We invited the environmental health officer back to the restaurant at the earliest opportunity and we’re very pleased with our greatly improved score.”

One KFC staff member at the Yeovil restaurant, writing on Facebook in the wake of a barrage of criticism, said: “There has never been any danger to the public as far as food safety is concerned and it must be remembered that environmental health officers are not just checking for food-related problems, but health and safety in general.

“We were revisited last week and have now been given a four-star rating.”

The Food Standards Agency website at http://ratings.food.gov.uk/ has yet to revise its KFC Yeovil rating.

But the staff member added: “I know they haven’t updated the rating on their website, but I have been assured that it will be updated soon.”

And he said: “I would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support since we have opened and thank people for their patience.

“We have had teething problems with mis-packs and speed of service, but hope to iron all of this out in the coming weeks.”
