Any budding Bradley Wiggins' in Yeovil?

BUDDING Bradley Wiggins and other potential sports stars will soon be getting on their bikes in Yeovil as part of a Balanceability activity programme which is being launched at Preston Sports Centre run by the 1610 leisure trust.Any budding Bradley Wiggins' in Yeovil?

It is being organised by the centre to introduce pre-school children to the Balanceability programme which is designed to develop their sporting skills through the use of pedal-less bikes.

Balanceability combines unique ergonomic balance bikes with a programme of activity that builds confidence, spatial awareness and balance skills.

The two six-week courses are aimed at children from three-and-a-half years of age. Through the use of pedal-less bikes, Balanceability eradicates the use of stabilisers and promotes the fundamental skill of cycling, which is balance.

The programme comprises structured lesson plans that help children develop gross motor skills, spatial awareness, dynamic and static balance, bilateral co-ordination along with the necessary skills to make the transition from a balance bike to an ordinary pedal bike in a safe, challenging but fun way.

“The courses have been designed to help children develop a variety of physical skills as well as their self confidence in what is a fun and stimulating way," he said.

"Cycling has become so popular in the UK in the past few years and because of the success of  cyclists such as Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton. And this is the ideal way for youngsters to learn about cycling but also to develop important sporting skills for life.”

Balanceability courses start at Preston Sports Centre in Yeovil on Saturday, January 12, from 9.30am to 10.15am. Cost is £18 for the six-week course.
