Shoppers - not drivers - to be breathalysed in town centre

Shoppers - not drivers - to be breathalysed in town centreTHE morning after the night before will be the focus of a drink driving campaign in Yeovil town centre this Saturday morning (December 15).

Shoppers who have been drinking the night before and would have considered driving in the morning may be invited to take a breathalyser test to see if they would have been over the limit.

Crew manager Neil Tidball, of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Alcohol can stay in your system longer than you think and you may in fact still be over the legal limit in the morning.

“After drinking a strong bottle of wine, it can take up to 13 hours for the alcohol to leave your system. By showing people the evidence through the breathalyser tests we can then provide them with facts and information.”

Fire officers, working with local police officers, will also have their road safety education vehicle present to display road safety information.
