South Western Terrace is the place to wine and dine in Yeovil

RESTAURANTS at the bottom end of Yeovil town centre are serving up a recipe for success with local diners, it has been claimed today.  South Western Terrace is the place to wine and dine in Yeovil

Leaders at South Somerset District Council are delighted with the way things are going in South Western Terrace which has become an integral part of the regeneration of the town centre.

Not so long ago and South Western Terrace was looking neglected and not a 'place to be seen' - but that has now changed with a number of restaurants having taken up occupancy and proving popular with diners.

It might seem a long way away from the romantic restaurant-filled streets of Paris and Milan - but chairman of the council's Area South committee, Cllr Tony Fife, is delighted with its success.

''We have done a lot of work in the South Western Terrace area with enhancement,'' he said. ''We wanted to turn it into a restaurant area and that has been achieved.''

Cllr Fife added that that would be enhanced even further next year with the arrival of a Beefeater establishment in the old Somerfield supermarket building on the corner of Lower Middle Street and South Western Terrace as part of an 80-bed Premier Inn hotel scheme.

''South Western Terrace is a very popular area and we are very proud of it,'' added Cllr Fife.

Cllr Fife said that with the attractions available at the adjoining Yeovale Leisure Park such as Cineworld, Bowlplex and other restaurants he guessed there were upwards of 1,000 people a night visiting the area.
