Close shave in Movember challenge

STAFF and students taking part in this year’s Movember campaign have ended the month with a cut throat razor shave at one of Yeovil College’s hairdressing salons.

The YeovilCollege team doubled in size to 15 over November and even drew support from some brave female staff, who sported fake moustaches at work throughout the month.

By Friday (November 30), the Yeovil College Mo Bros had raised nearly £500 with the support of staff and students from around the college.  As well as sponsorship for their facial hair, the team also received funds collected by Foundation Learning students and the proceeds from a bake sale run by Health & Social Care students.

Members of the team were shaved at one of the college’s professional salons by Level 3 Hairdressing and Barbering students.  The salons are open to the public and cut throat razor shaves have become a popular treatment since they were introduced last year. 

A Level student Fergus Brown, 19, was one of the Movember team.  He said: “I heard about Movember during tutorial and thought it might be something different to do. 

''I enjoyed taking part and growing a moustache, it’s been interesting to see what it looks like!  It’s been good fun having it, but I’m having it shaved off and staying clean shaven for now.  You never know, though, the 1970s look might come back in again, so I might think about having a stylish ‘tash in the future!” 

Team leader and IT Technician Lee Brooks added: “I’m so proud of the team and really pleased with the amount raised.  As one member of staff said, it’s ‘mo-tastic’ that so many people have wanted to support this important campaign for men’s health.
