Liz Pryor, 22, of Martock, who is a teaching assistant at Preston School, is trying to fund a once in a lifetime trip to help struggling rural communities in Kenya. In January of next year,

Liz hopes to be part of a team with Camps International which will spend two months supporting on-going educational and community projects in some of the most deprived areas of Kenya.

Liz has to raise £2000 to fund the trip which she is planning to do by cycling the length of the Kenyan coastline, 333 miles in just 24 hours on a static bike in the Preston Sports Centre gym.

Liz hopes the local community will support her by helping to sponsor her bike ride which she hopes to complete in 3 hour cycling sessions in under 24 hours during December.

Liz says that she wanted to become involved in the Kenyan project as a way of giving something back to society for the opportunities she has been given.

"I have been so lucky in my life in terms of education with school and University that I felt now would be a good time for someone like me from such a privileged society to contribute to others who lack so much in terms of educational opportunities," she said.

"I plan to do some teaching and get involved in a variety of projects while I am in Kenya and I also hope that some of my students at Preston School will also support me with my challenge.”

The manger of Preston Sports Centre, Matt Harras, says that the centre is very happy to help Liz with such an important fundraising challenge.

"It won’t be easy to complete the challenge in terms of fitness and hours involved but we have every confidence in Liz that she is determined enough to achieve her goal," he said.

The fundraising challenge will enable Liz to help with educational projects, building classrooms, sports activities, wildlife conservation and educational workshops. For those wishing to sponsor Liz’s fundraising challenge should visit www.kenyanfundraise.moonfruit.com for more details.
