Thirty one teams took part from Yeovil Hospital, the Yeovil Progressive Science Lodge; Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association; Soroptomists International; Yeovil Inner Wheel together with independent groups and village teams.

This year the quiz raised money towards the cost of equipment in support of the Flying Colours Appeal for The Special Care Baby Unit at Yeovil Women’s Health and Maternity Unit which is undergoing extensive refurbishment to enhance and modernise the current unit. The special Flying Colours Appeal plans to raise £2.4m.

Neil Tomlin, Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in the pub quiz.

''The money raised will help support the smallest and most vulnerable members of our community and I know that the parents along with our staff really appreciate everyone’s support in helping us to improve the facilities at our local hospital.”

Chairman of The Friends, Anne Bennett, said: “This year we had the most teams ever wanting to compete in the quiz. The Friends enjoy their fundraising activities and we take our responsibilities very seriously.

''Local people are increasingly interested in how their donations are spent and seem to feel The Friends do a good job. Since September 2011, The Friends have disbursed £144,515 for equipment and services for YeovilDistrictHospital. In addition, The Friends have been administering a large legacy left to the newly redesigned and refurbished Oncology Unit which opened recently.”

During the past year, The Friends have donated £48,591 for endoscopy scope guide equipment enabling patients to be treated more comfortably, £14,675 for a balance trainer to help rehabilitation and £9,188 to the Physio department for the development of a Patient Seminar Room.

Meanwhile The Friends’ Hospital Shop and trolley service are recruiting volunteers. The profits from these services are donated to the hospital for much-needed equipment and other amenities, which directly benefit patients.
