House fire in Sherborne Road

THERE was road traffic chaos in Yeovil this evening following a house fire in Sherborne Road.

The Fire Service was mobilised at just before 4pm to smoke coming from the roof of a property and two fire engines were sent out.

Crews found there were large amounts of smoke coming from the roof and chimney and requested support from a further two fire engines.

Further officers from Yeovil and Martock attended, as well as an incident support unit from Street. An aerial ladder platform was also requested and sent from Yeovil.

An hour later and officers were dampening down hotspots on the ground floor of the property, while slates were being stripped from the roof to allow officers to see the extent of the fire.

By 8pm and 65 per cent of the property had been damaged by fire, while 80 per cent had received heat and smoke damage.

Sherborne Road was closed during the incident which led to traffic problems on the busy road – especially during the early evening rush hour.
