SOMERSET NEWS: Bunkers and blob pot fines raise funds for Cancer Research UK

THE captain of the seniors section at Long Sutton Golf Club has presented the Bridgwater & District Friends of Cancer Research UK with a cheque for more than £2,200.

Each year the captain of the club, based near Yeovil, gets to select a charity to support and at the end of the year the money raised is presented.

The money is raised from various competitions during the year, plus the “fun” fines for golfers hitting into bunkers and the proceeds of the “blob pot” which is where a player fails to score on a hole.

Captain Chris Hockey presented a cheque for £2,210.08 on Thursday (October 6, 2016) Cancer Research UK and charity representatives Vanessa Brooks-Oke and Clive Woodrow, from the Bridgwater & District Friends, were on hand to gladly receive the much-welcomed donation.

Chris’ year as captain of the seniors at Long Sutton Golf Club comes to an end next Thursday (October 13, 2016).
