CHARD NEWS: Highlighting problems with dropped kerbs

MEMBERS of Chard Town Council and local people have joined together to look at the condition of dropped kerbs throughout the town.

All of the dropped kerb problems will be collated by the town council and then sent to Somerset County Council as a request for a plan to improve them.

Cllr Amanda Broom said: “The idea to do this came from a resident in my ward, they have a disabled son and find accessing Chard Cemetery from the bottom entrance impossible - any visits result in an extended walk up to the top entrance, which is unnecessary and difficult.

“This is just one example, every ward in Chard has its own issues and it's great that we are all working together to send to the county council a clear request for a plan of action.”CHARD NEWS: Highlighting problems with dropped kerbs

Cllrs Jason Baker, Dave Orchard, Jenny Orchard and Cathie Morrison along with the Mayor, Cllr Dave Bulmer, were in attendance along with local residents Zak Williams and Alan Braley.

Councillors used mobility scooters and wheelchairs to find out for themselves the problems people with mobility issues face on a daily basis when trying to get about.

Each councillor will now collate the information relating to dropped kerbs in their ward and provide a detailed plan to the town council clerk Zoe Truong.

If you know of any kerbs in your area that need addressing, please contact your local councillor via details on Chard Town Council’s website.
