YEOVIL NEWS: Man needs medical help after bungalow fire

FIREFIGHTERS were called out this afternoon (Thursday, September 29, 2016) after being notified by Careline that an alarm was sounding at a sheltered accommodation bungalow in Yeovil.

One fire engine from Yeovil was called to a property in the Milford area of the town and discovered there had been a small fire.

The incident involved a saucepan on a hob, but although the fire was out by the time they had arrived, the elderly male occupant needed some medical assistance.

“He required oxygen therapy from us as he had suffered slight smoke inhalation which in turn had aggravated his asthma,” said a spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

“After leaving the gentleman in the care of paramedics, we made the area safe and ventilated the property.”

The fire, which started accidentally, caused minimal damage, while the gentleman did not need to be taken to hospital.

Careline is operated by South Somerset District Council and provides elderly people contact with help at the touch of a button.
